Ok this is a more "for real" Christmas post. We has a wonderful day, Dale, Michelle and Heather came up and spent the day with us and we were able to get on a video chat with Rob, Chrissy and Jonathan, while we opened gifts. Heather was soooooo cute, she got so excited with opening gifts, not just her own but when others would open theres she wonted to help, and some times
" redistribute" some of them. LOL Before those in CA. got off line Rob told us "Merry Christmas from all four of us". YEAH!!!! I am going to be an Aunt again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Later on we had a nice meal and and just spent the day enjoying each other. Last night we turned on The Sound of Music, but we didn't watch much of it, we were too busy watching Heather watch it. :) She was way too cute.
All in all we had a wonderful day, and I thank the Lord for his many wonderful blessings.

A crazy day

Thursday morning we headed north to Goshen to spend the day with the Bee family. They live not far from Shipshewana, so we decided to spend the afternoon there, and do some shopping. We went to David's Mercantile, which is a four story tall building with lots of little shops in it, of course my favorite is the Lolly's ( the fabric shop). We also went to the little chocolate shop so that I could get some chocolate covered blueberry's ( yum, yum). After that we went to a HUGE bulk food store. The first thing that we saw when we first went in was 10lb. bars of chocolate, we didn't buy any though :(. After that we went back to the Bees for supper. At about 7:00 we left to go home. The roads were kind of bad when we first left but we kept going not realising how bad they were going to get. It took us about 2 hours to go about as far as we would have been able to go in about 30 min. on good road. We finally decided to spend the night with the Koozer's. We teased the we were just looking for an excuse to see them again. Thank you Koozer family for your hospitality! Friday morning we got up bright and early and headed home on much clearer roads and made it home safely, praise the Lord!

Yesterday was Rhonda's 23rd birthday! We had a bit of a party last night with Dale, Michelle and Heather.

Rhonda was given a necklace charm and Heather found it and wanted to put it on. Well there wasn't a chain for it so Rhonda was telling her that she couldn't put it on. Heather started pulling her shirt up and wanting Rhonda to put it on her belly button. So Rhonda had me get some tape and she taped it right over her belly button. It was too funny watching her with it.

Last Sunday, Rhonda hosted a tea for the lady's in our church. It was a Heroins of History party. A few of us wrote paper's on different lady in history that were used of God. We had a nice time, and it was a good learning experience .

I love so many different books and authors it is hard to say. I loooovvvvvveeee the Little House books so I guess that Laura Ingles Wilder would be at the top

Who was your first favorite author and why?
Karoline Keen, and yes I know that that is a fictitious name but that is that one on the books, I liked "her" because those were the first books that I started reading.

Who is your most recent addition to your favorite authors and why?
Daniel Defoe, Because I just listened to Robinson Crusoe on audio a few weeks ago while working on my cousins quilt and I thought that it was a really neat book.

A long and busy day

Right after I awoke this morning I heard thunder and I remembered that we were going to pick mulberries this morning so I just out of bed and ran out to pick them.

Rhonda and I picked for a while and then while Rhonda picked the berries I picked

We started working on putting up the peas before lunch but I didn't get it finished until this evening because we went

Last Monday when we got home our garden was green from side to side with weeds, so we spent most of last week trying to get the garden cleaned up. It is looking much better, in fact I think it is looking better than it has ever looked before.

Last Monday on our way home from the wedding, we stopped by the meeting at my uncle's church in Southern IN..
I took some pictures of some of the teen activity's.

Here some of the girls were trying to put out the candles that the boy's are holding.

The next activity was two of the kids ( Stephanie and Jenelle) had to dig through a pile of baked beens to some M&M and pick them out with there mouths.

Quilt Frame

A couple of weeks ago I looked up some auctions in our area, and I saw that there was one near us that had a quilt frame and a log splitter ( I was glad that they had the log splitter so I was able to get someone to take me out there). Right after we got there they came to the quilt frame, and he started the bidding on it, no one else bid on it so I was able to get it for $2!!!! I was SOOOOO happy!!! We also got the log splitter, which is a good thing, although we did have to pay a little more that $2 but I think that we still got a good deal on it.
These are pictures of the quilt frame with my cousins wedding quilt on it. We got finished quilting it on Tuesday! It took us just 2 1/2 weeks!, we were bookin' it.

Since our family is growing we have started drawing names for our Christmas exchange, this year I got Beckisue; I decided to make her a quilt. I gave her what I had done( which was the quilt top and a very little quilting[I hand quilted it]) at Thanksgiving while Rob and Chrissy were here. I finished quilting it last Thursday and finished the binding yesterday. Now I have my Friendship quilt to finish then my Honey Comb quilt, that might take me a few years. :)

This last week was majorly crazy!!! It started out by on Monday and Tuesday we all spent the day in Kokomo, we went down there for services at the the jail there, Pastor Larry Lilly was preaching and they asked our family to do music for the services. It was a good time, there were many people that made professions of faith and the messages were a blessings to us all as well.

Then on Wednesday Rhonda and I took off with Rhenda Acton to go to Paducah Kentucky for the AQS ( American Quilter's Society) Quilt Show. It was so neat, I had sooooooo much fun. We were very tired by the time it was over but it was worth it.
I had been to Paducah many times over the years but I had no idea that once a year it could be so big!!! On Wednesday we went straight to the Quilt museum ( which I didn't even know it was there) and looked at the quilts there and then walked to two quilt shops and bought some fabric ( of course).
Then on Thursday we went to the quilt show. WOW!!!!! That thing was soooooooooo BBBBIIIGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When we got there we got in a line that was about the length on a football field, it only took us about 12 min. to go through it though. Then we went into a huge room that was full of people, quilts and vendors. We spent a couple of hours looking around in there and then we went and ate our lunch. When we came back in we went down a hall and up stars to an other room up there to see a some more vendors, we found that there were also some more quilts from another category up there.
Rhenda was looking for the vendor from a shop in Indy and so we asked about it and we under stood them to tell us that it was down stairs so we found and other room of vendors ( now keep in mind that each room has a couple hundred vendors), well they weren't in that room either so we went back to were we payed to get in and they told us to go back up stairs and past the room we had been in a while earlier and to go for a long ways ( that was an under statement ), and it would be past the pool. Well we took off walking.... and we walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked ( I think you get the picture), while we are walking ( we are still in the same building) we past little shops and restaurants and stuff, but we finely found more vendors and we look for the one from Indy but they weren't there and then we remember that we haven't past the pool so we walked a while more and went down some stairs and found another room of vendors, I think it probably had the most in it, and that was the one with the shop from Indy.
After that we went to Hancock Paducah ( it is the original Hancock Fabric) that was also packed out, but they sure did have a lot of beautiful fabric, I was disappointed because they wouldn't cut less that an half of a yard in the main part of the store and in the back, where they had there clearance fabric, it was a minimum of one yard. I was finally able to get one piece cut to and eighth ( which is what I need for my Honey Comb quilt) so I can say that I did get some fabric at Hancock Paducah.

The lady that made this quilt made it in memory on her cat, if you look closely at it you can see that it has weeping willows and cats on it.

This quilt won in it's devision ( machine quilting) and the woman that made it won best of show the past 2 years.

This was Rhonda's favorite, it was all Broderie Purse. For those of you that don't know what that is, it is where you take a printed fabric and cut out the design and appliqué it to your background fabric.

This morning my Grandpa went home to be with the Lord. He went with the sunrise. We all are of course sad for us, but we are so happy for him, He has been asking God to take him home for about 3 years now, so at last his prayer has been answered.

The other day I was making butter and I decided to take some pictures while I was at it.

Reading in The Little House on the Prairie books Laura talked about her mother
putting grated carrot in her butter in the winter to give it some color, so I decided to look
it up in my little house cook book and I found that it said to boil the carrot in a little bit of
milk and then add it to the cream.

I like to shake it in a jar, it takes a while longer than a mixer but I guess I just like doing things the slow way. I put a half of a tea ball in it to help the agitation ( I don't know if it really helps but I know that it doesn't hurt).

Washing the buttermilk out of the butter, this is very important because if it is not don't well the butter will go bad much quicker.

The finished product, I made 4 different small batches 2 with the carrot and 2 with out and made this variegated look.

Last night at a little after 12, I must have been sleeping lightly, because I became aware of some flapping noise. In my sleep I was alert enough to realize that is was a Bat, I was also asleep enough to not care, that is until I opened my eyes enough to see it right above my head. That is when I fully woke up. I didn't go back to sleep until it finally left an hour later. I have no idea where it came from or where it went, I am just glad that it's gone.

Clear Play

The other day we got a new "Clear Play" DVD player. It it a DVD player that takes out questionable scenes and language in movies. We watched "Cinderella Man" last night, and it worked quite well. We had watched it before and we had enjoyed it, but the language had been pretty bad. With the "Clear Play" it was much more enjoyable. It is something that I would recommend, it does have monthly or yearly fee, because they are always updating it but if you like to watch movies like I do it is worth the money.

Grandpa wanted to do something for Grandma for her birthday, like take her out to eat or something, but it was to cold to get ether of them out, so we made them a dinner and set it up for them in there room. Yesterday we had occasion to stop and thank God for his watch and care over us. Dad, Mom, Rhonda and Jonathan went to Wisconsin on Wednesday,and Beckisue and Monica were at work. I had some thing to go to yesterday and as I was going through the porch on my way out I smelled something coming form the drier so told Steph to stay off the porch. After I had left the smell kept getting worse so Steph called Monica and she came home. They turned off the gas but then smoke started pouring off the porch, so they called the fire department. they took the burning drier off the porch and put the fire out. When I came home later I was greeted by a drier in our yard. The house smelled terribly of smoke but I am just thankful we still have a house. So as Thanksgiving is coming up I am very thankful.

Yesterday we had our annual harvest party, unfortunately I was unable to get any pictures. The tradition of our fall party started when our friends the Sauers came up to our house on halloween of 2000, I believe, for a non-halloween party. That first year it was just our two families and over the years it has grown quite a lot. For our party yesterday many of the families in our church and some neighbors came out to our house after services and lunch for a day of fellowship and fun. We had a very good time playing games and cooking over the fire, some of us made made cornbread in the dutch ovens to go with our hot dogs, chili, and hot cider as well as other goodies people brought. There was a big game of capture the flag, my team lost but oh well it was fun anyway.

Creation Museum

We went to the Creation Museum on Friday, WOW!! it was amazing, there were so many things to show us the love of God. My favorite part was the Planetarium. After seeing how large the universe is, I am amazed that God could love me, isn't He wonderful!!!! Well here are some pictures of our visit.

Koh-Koh-Mah

Well the Koh-Koh-Mah is over, it went very well, and I had a nice time. Unfortunately I was unable to get any pictures because Monica's camera would not take any :( . I may be able to get some from a friends mother, I hope. We (Rhenda and I) made soup, corn bread, hearth bread, meat pies fruit pie and pumpkin pies. We made some blue berry pies that called for cinnamon but we had forgotten the cinnamon, so Rhenda went to go get some cinnamon candy to flavor the pie, well the people that were selling the candy made a mistake and gave us mint candy instead, it didn't turn out to bad but it was kind of weird. It was eaten any way. lol. On Friday all the school kids came out on there field trips, I was told that one of the little kid were heard asking "Is that a real fire?" lol, poor kid. Over all we had a very nice time, there was some beautiful music played over those two days and a saw a lot of friends.

My mother just had her birthday, I won't tell how old she is because I would like to live to see my next birthday. Dad took her out for lunch, and then all of us girls ( except for Beckisue because she was working) met up with her and went shopping for the afternoon. When we were finished we all went to Dale and Michelle's to see Michelle and Heather (Dale is out of town working), as usual Heather stole the show, but I don't think anybody minded, not even Nana. We had dinner there and cake and ice cream. When we got home Monica, Rhonda and Jonathan got out there instruments and serenaded her for a little while.

For Rhonda's 22nd birthday she decided that she wanted to go to the Tippacanoe State Park, so after a very hectic morning and early after noon, we finally made it. While we were up there we climbed the fire tower, we could see the Smith's farm from the top. After words we went to Fran's and spent the evening with Beckisue.

Here are some pictures of some of the produce out of our garden this year. We got 48 quarts of green beans (not as many as I hoped for but better that none), 200 lbs of potatoes 4 pumpkins, about a dozen butternut squash, about 5 acorn squash, we had a nice crop of tomatoes at the beginning of the season but the tomato worms got to them :-(, we had quite a lot of summer squash, quite a bit of peppers and a very few snow peas.

Here are some pictures of a recent project that I worked on, we found this pot in our basement when we moved into our house, the name on the bottom is " Favorite Piqua Ware", I looked it up on line and I found out the this company changed its name to this in 1889 and then went out of business in 1934, so it was made some where in those years. When my mom fund it, it was very rusty so I spent 2 days sanding it and now it looks almost like new. I am planing to take this to the Koh-Koh-Mah

I am getting ready to do my first reenactment in 2 weeks, it is called the Koh-Koh-Mah and Forester living history reenactment. I am hand sewing my entire out fit (I hope I get it done = D ). I will be doing one of my favorite things while I am there, I will do a lot of baking =). We will bake in old fashioned Dutch ovens and cook in cast iron pots over an open fire, I am really looking forward to it.
